An introduction to machine sewing

In this 2hr workshop you will be introduced to the parts on a sewing machine and learn how it works.

We will visit the following topics in this beginners sewing class:

Setting up your machine for sewing

A little about notions and threads

Fabric types, thickness and tension

Needle type/stitch size

Basic control of the machine - speed,

Straight lines and using cutting tools.

Pinning and pressing

Dealing with raw edges

You will create several test pieces which will act as your reference material for future projects.

If you are feeling confident then during the class we can make a simple

envelope style cushion cover or small lavender bag for you to take home.

All materials including pressed white cotton, pattern patches and threads will be provided for you.

Please bring along your own sewing machine if you can or let me know in advance if you will need to hire one.
